Jack Fu
From City Investment Training to Morgan Stanley
I joined City Investment Training relatively early during university after being recommended by a former student. At that stage, I had studied Economics, but I had not covered the accounting, valuation, or financial modelling skills banks expected candidates to understand.

After adding City Investment Training to my CV, I noticed a substantial increase in the number of first-round interviews I received.
Recruiters would often comment on the modelling and valuation experience because these were practical skills that most undergraduate Economics students had not yet developed.

That knowledge became even more important during interviews with investment banks and elite boutiques, where I was asked detailed questions on DCFs, WACC, M&A, and valuation. The mock interviews prepared me for being challenged beyond basic textbook answers.

I later secured an internship at Goldman Sachs in leveraged finance. Because I had already built LBO models and worked through debt paydown structures during the programme, I understood the logic behind the analysis from the beginning. I wasn’t seeing these concepts for the first time on the job, which made the transition into the team much easier.

Iakov Bondyaev
From City Investment Training to J.P Morgan
As an international student from Latvia, I knew that building the right network would be essential if I wanted to compete for roles at leading investment banks. City Investment Training showed me how to approach that process properly.

One of the most valuable parts of the programme was learning how to reach out to professionals in a way that was targeted, respectful, and genuinely useful.
Through the networking strategies taught by Sameer and the guest bankers, I was able to speak with senior professionals across the industry, including the CFO of Goldman Sachs.

Those conversations gave me a much deeper understanding of different firms and divisions, but they also led to referrals for assessment centres. That made a real difference during recruitment because I wasn't applying blindly—I had stronger knowledge of the banks, their teams, and the areas I was most interested in.

After completing the programme, I attended insight days and Spring Weeks at firms including Blackstone, MUFG, J.P. Morgan, and Société Générale. I later progressed to four assessment centres and secured a summer internship with a bulge bracket bank.

The course taught me that effective networking is not about sending more messages. It is about knowing who to approach, what to ask, and how to turn conversations into opportunities.

Nicolas Heinze Moreno (needs changing)V
From City Investment Training to Morgan Stanley
" I completed City Investment Training during my second year at university, long before I secured my full-time role in investment banking. Looking back, it became one of the most valuable investments I made in my career.

The programme gave me the technical skills that helped me secure my early internships, but what really stood out was how useful those skills continued to be years later. The knowledge I gained stayed with me throughout every stage of the recruitment process and into my professional career.

Another thing I really valued was the network. I'm still in touch with many people from my cohort today, and those relationships have continued long after the programme finished.

When I eventually received my Investment Banking Analyst offer from Morgan Stanley, one of the first people I wanted to tell was Sameer. That says a lot about the role City Investment Training played in helping me get there."
Andrea Martelleti
From City Investment Training to UBS
" My university gave me a good understanding of business, but very little exposure to the practical side of corporate finance. City Investment Training filled that gap by teaching me how financial models are actually built and used in investment banking.

What I liked most was that the programme focused on application rather than theory. Instead of simply learning formulas, we built models from scratch, which made it much easier to understand the logic behind them. Those practical skills became incredibly valuable once I started my internships because I could contribute from day one rather than trying to learn everything on the job.

Another thing I appreciated was how personalised the programme felt. Being able to ask questions and receive feedback on my work made a huge difference compared with larger online courses.

The technical skills I developed through City Investment Training helped strengthen my CV and prepared me for internships in venture capital before later joining UBS Investment Banking."

Jakub Åšmigorski
From City Investment Training to Rothschild
"Before joining City Investment Training, I was studying at university with very little exposure to finance. After attending the free workshop, I enrolled on the eight-week programme, and it completely changed my understanding of investment banking.

The course gave me a strong foundation in accounting, valuation, and the technical skills I needed for interviews. Since my degree wasn't finance-related, having everything explained in a structured and practical way made a huge difference.

The technical preparation gave me the confidence to perform in highly technical interviews and ultimately helped me secure my first internship in banking. That experience later led to an opportunity to work at PwC while continuing my studies.

Looking back, City Investment Training gave me the technical foundation and confidence that helped turn my first finance opportunity into the start of my career."

Eleanore Chamboredon
From City Investment Training to Societe Generale
"I wasn't completely sure which area of finance I wanted to go into until I joined City Investment Training. The programme gave me a much better understanding of the industry while helping me develop the technical skills and confidence to pursue opportunities in investment banking.
Just a couple of weeks after finishing the programme, I secured a placement at Société Générale.

What really makes City Investment Training different is the focus on networking. Of course, you learn the technical skills needed to get through interviews, but the programme goes much further than that. It teaches you how to approach professionals, build relationships, and understand the different areas within investment banking, private equity, venture capital, and the wider finance industry.

Those networking skills made a huge difference once I started my placement. I felt much more confident reaching out to senior professionals and learning from people across the business, including the Global Head of Trading.

The programme isn't just about passing interviews—it's about preparing you for the industry. It gave me the technical foundation, networking skills, and confidence to make the most of every opportunity."

Sophie Olney
From City Investment Training to Alantra
" When I first started applying for investment banking roles, I quickly realised that having good grades wasn't enough. The biggest thing I was missing was the technical knowledge needed to perform well in interviews, which is why I joined City Investment Training.

What I found valuable was being able to learn directly from someone with industry experience. Financial modelling, valuation, and technical concepts were explained in a practical way, and because the classes were interactive, I could ask questions whenever something wasn't clear. That made a huge difference compared with trying to learn everything through online courses.

By the end of the programme, I felt much more confident answering technical questions and explaining my thought process during interviews.

Those skills played an important role in helping me secure a Private Equity internship at Bridgepoint before moving into an M&A role at Alantra. "

Guillem Torner
From City Investment Training to KPMG
"I joined City Investment Training because I wanted something that online courses couldn't offer. I was looking for face-to-face learning, direct access to someone with investment banking experience, and an environment where I could properly develop my skills.

What stood out most was the structure of the programme. Building financial models in class, asking questions in real time, and receiving immediate feedback made the learning far more effective than studying independently. It also confirmed that investment banking was the career I genuinely wanted to pursue.

The programme continued to benefit me long after the eight weeks finished. The modelling foundation helped me complete complex LBO case studies during interviews, including the one that ultimately led to my role at RBC Capital Markets. I also built friendships and professional connections that have stayed with me throughout my career.

The program provided an immersive learning experience that helped me develop the confidence, network, and practical skills to progress from my first role in investment banking to KPMG Deal Advisory and now RBC Capital Markets."
George Matthews From City Investment Training to Houlihan Lokey
I first joined City Investment Training after my first year at Queen Mary University because I wanted to gain experience as early as possible. I hadn't secured a Spring Week, so my goal was to build the technical skills that would make me competitive for summer internships.

One thing I didn't expect was how much support I'd receive after the programme finished. The course doesn't just end after eight weeks.
Even months later, when I was preparing for interviews with Houlihan, I was able to reach out to Sameer for advice. We went through the firm, discussed what made it unique, and covered the key areas I needed to focus on before the interview.

That ongoing support made a huge difference. Throughout the recruitment process, I knew I always had someone I could ask for guidance, whether it was technical questions, mock interviews, or general career advice.

After a long application process, I secured my internship at Houlihan. Having continued access to mentorship throughout the recruitment process was one of the most valuable parts of City Investment Training, and it's something that's difficult to find anywhere else.

Nasser AlQassar
From City Investment Training to Deutsche Bank
City Investment Training was really my first proper experience in finance. I was studying Politics, Philosophy and Economics at Exeter and knew I wanted to move into the industry, but I didn’t yet have anything finance-related on my CV.
The programme gave me technical knowledge and practical skills that I could use to secure my next opportunity. I then found a part-time investment banking internship through a City Investment Training alumni event, which I completed alongside my final year at university.

From there, I kept building on each experience. I completed work experience at a hedge fund and eventually secured an off-cycle internship at Deutsche Bank, which had been the main goal throughout the process.

The technical preparation also became very useful during the Deutsche Bank assessment centre, particularly for the technical interview. Sameer’s collection of 100 technical questions helped me prepare for the topics I was likely to face.

City Investment Training gave me the first credible finance experience on my CV, and I was able to use that as a starting point for every opportunity that followed.

Nino Awtani
From City Investment Training to SI Partners
I didn't decide on investment banking until the final year of university, which meant I was already behind. I knew very little about spring weeks, summer internships, or how recruitment actually worked, and I quickly realised there was far more to the industry than I had expected.

City Investment Training completely changed that. More than anything, it gave me a genuine understanding of investment banking and the different career paths within it. Through Sameer's experience and the guest speakers from across the industry, I was able to learn what different teams actually do and decide that M&A was the area I wanted to pursue.

The financial modelling was also outstanding. In fact, when I joined an M&A boutique after the programme, I found that the modelling we had covered during the course was even more advanced than what I was initially expected to produce on the job. That gave me a real advantage from day one.

The program helped me gain clarity to make informed career decisions. Without City Investment Training, I genuinely don't think I would be working in investment banking today.

Adam Dewji
From City Investment Training to HSBC
Coming from a non-target university, I wasn't sure whether investment banking was still a realistic career path. City Investment Training completely changed that mindset by giving me the technical skills and practical experience I felt I was missing.

The programme covered everything from financial modelling and DCFs to LBOs and comparable company analysis, all taught in a way that was easy to follow and immediately applicable. It gave me the confidence to compete in spring week applications, stock pitch competitions, and other finance opportunities that I previously wouldn't have felt prepared for.

What I also appreciated was being surrounded by ambitious students with similar goals. The environment encouraged everyone to keep improving and made the whole experience much more motivating.

City Investment Training helped me become far more competitive and gave me the confidence to pursue opportunities in investment banking and high finance.

Rania Sidinou
From City Investment Training to Attijari Finance Corp.
Coming from a Political Economy background, I had no experience with financial modelling, valuation, or any of the technical skills required for investment banking. I knew I wanted to move into finance, but I wasn't sure where to start. City Investment Training gave me the structured learning and practical experience I needed to bridge that gap.

What I found most valuable was how hands-on the programme was. Instead of just learning theory, we built financial models, worked through valuations, and applied everything we learned to real companies. That made complex concepts much easier to understand and gave me confidence that I could actually use these skills in interviews and on the job.

Another thing that really stood out was that the programme didn't just focus on technicals. We also spent time on networking, personal branding, and how to communicate our experiences effectively. Those are skills that aren't always taught at university but are incredibly important when you're trying to stand out in such a competitive industry.

Looking back, City Investment Training gave me practical foundation in finance that complemented my university degree and helped me successfully transition into private equity.

Abheek Dutta
From City Investment Training to Morgan Stanley
After studying Economics at Oxford and completing a Master's in Finance at London Business School, I joined City Investment Training to strengthen my technical skills and gain more practical experience before applying to investment banking roles.

One of the biggest lessons I took away from the programme was that breaking into investment banking is a process of continuous improvement.
I sent countless applications, reached numerous final rounds, and received plenty of rejections along the way. Each time, I learned something new, refined my approach, and became a stronger candidate.

City Investment Training gave me the technical foundation that stayed with me throughout that journey. It prepared me for the financial concepts I'd repeatedly face in interviews and gave me a much better understanding of what banks were actually looking for.

Eventually, everything came together. After progressing through multiple final-round interviews, I secured several offers before accepting a role with Morgan Stanley's Investment Banking division.
The recruitment process isn't about getting every application right—it's about continuing to improve until the right opportunity comes along.

Bijan Ghamsari
From City Investment Training to CITI
When I joined City Investment Training, I was preparing for Spring Week applications but still wasn’t completely sure which area of banking suited me. After submitting dozens of applications and receiving plenty of rejections, I realised that technical knowledge alone wasn’t enough.

The programme helped me approach recruitment much more broadly. Alongside financial modelling, we were encouraged to follow the Financial Times, build commercial awareness, and prepare properly for competency and motivational questions.
Sameer also reviewed my CV and went through my cover letters sentence by sentence, which made the support feel very personal.
Another valuable part of the programme was being exposed to different areas of finance, including investment banking, private equity, venture capital, asset management, and private banking. That helped me broaden my applications rather than focus on one path.

I eventually secured an Investment Banking Summer Analyst opportunity in the US and accepted a Private Banking Summer Analyst internship with Citi in Luxembourg.
City Investment Training taught me how to adapt, improve my applications, and remain open to opportunities across the wider finance industry.

Matthieu Duburcq
From City Investment Training to Stifel
My bachelor’s and master’s degrees were quite broad and mainly focused on management, so although I had studied some corporate finance, I still wanted a more practical understanding of the industry.

City Investment Training gave me that exposure while also helping me prepare properly for recruitment. I worked with Sameer on mock interviews, my CV, and cover letters, which made the process much more structured and gave me a clearer idea of how to position my experience.

The programme also introduced me to Golden Hill, a boutique M&A firm where I went on to work for two and a half years. That role gave me my first real experience in investment banking and became the starting point for the rest of my career.

I now work at Stifel in the mid-market. What made City Investment Training valuable was that it gave me both the practical preparation and the industry access needed to move from a general business background into M&A.

Demi Chen
From City Investment Training to Deutsche Bank
Coming from a Pure Mathematics background, I found investment banking quite intimidating at first because I had no accounting or finance knowledge. City Investment Training gave me a structured introduction that made the whole industry much more accessible.
The programme started with the fundamentals before building into financial modelling and valuation, making it much easier to understand topics that had previously felt overwhelming. The practical projects and company case studies also gave me examples that I could talk about confidently during interviews.
One thing I really appreciated was that the course didn't just teach technical concepts, it gave me a foundation that made independent learning much easier afterwards. Once I understood the basics, I could continue building my knowledge with much more confidence.

Raj Ravariya
From City Investment Training to Linlcoln
After moving from India to complete my Master's at the London School of Economics, I wanted to transition from consulting into investment banking.
While I had a strong academic background, I was looking for practical experience that would prepare me for the recruitment process.

One of the biggest things I took away from City Investment Training was learning how to use AI to improve my job search.
Before the programme, I had never used AI or automation for networking. Sameer showed us how to use these tools effectively, and once I implemented the system, I started receiving responses from professionals and even recommendations for opportunities.

Alongside that, mock interviews gave me a much clearer understanding of what investment banking interviews involve and where I needed to improve.

City Investment Training wasn't just about learning technical skills, it was about learning smarter ways to approach recruitment.
The combination of practical finance training and modern networking strategies made the programme genuinely different from anything I'd experienced before.

Sarvesh Nandgaonkar
From City Investment Training to Silver Mile Capital
I’m originally from Mumbai, where I completed my undergraduate degree and worked at HSBC Asset Management before moving to the UK for an MSc in Finance at the University of Nottingham.

I completed City Investment Training before arriving in the UK, which gave me useful preparation ahead of my master’s.
The course helped me understand the practical side of finance and gave me a better idea of what to expect from the UK market.

I completed the programme remotely, so I didn’t get the full classroom or cohort experience, but I still found it very valuable.
It gave me a solid base before starting university and made the transition into postgraduate finance much easier.

Thomas Hung
From City Investment Training to Societe Generale
Before joining City Investment Training, I was trying to learn investment banking through YouTube videos, online resources, and different courses. The problem was that everything felt disconnected. I could understand individual topics, but I never really saw how they all fitted together.

The programme completely changed that. Starting with accounting before moving into financial modelling and valuation gave me a much clearer understanding of how investment banking works in practice. Every topic built on the previous one, so by the end of the course everything finally made sense.

That structured approach made a huge difference when preparing for interviews because I understood the reasoning behind the technical questions instead of simply memorising answers.

During the programme I secured an offer with Société Générale in Global Markets, and I genuinely believe having that structured technical foundation played an important role in helping me get there. It gave me a much clearer understanding of finance and made the whole re

Thomas Basset
From City Investment Training to Venero Capital
After graduating with a degree in Accounting and Finance, I realised there was still a gap between what I'd learned at university and what employers expected in investment banking.

The financial modelling and valuation training gave me experience that I simply hadn't developed during my degree. Everything was taught with real-world application in mind, making it much easier to understand how the technical concepts are actually used in the workplace.

That practical experience gave me much more confidence throughout the recruitment process and strengthened my applications for finance roles.

Shortly after completing the programme, I secured a role at Venera Capital Advisors.
City Investment Training gave me the practical skills and industry knowledge that helped me make the transition from university into investment banking.

Freddie Wooding
From City Investment Training to Societe Generale
After spending a year working in insurance, I realised I wanted to move into a role that was more analytical and closely connected to the capital markets.
With a Politics degree from Newcastle University, I knew I needed to build the technical knowledge that my academic background had not covered.

City Investment Training gave me that foundation. Learning financial statements, valuation, and financial modelling helped me understand how companies are analysed and why those skills are central to investment banking and equity research.
The second half of the programme was especially useful because we applied what we had learned by producing our own equity research report, which made the experience feel much closer to real work than a classroom exercise.

I also really enjoyed the cohort. Everyone came from different academic backgrounds, so there was always something new to learn from the people around you.

The programme helped me identify equity research and capital markets as the areas I found most interesting, which ultimately shaped the direction I chose to take afterwards.

João Martins
From City Investment Training to Abacus Wealth Europe
City Investment Training gave me a technical advantage that continued to benefit me even though I ultimately stayed in wealth management rather than moving into investment banking.

The programme taught me how companies are valued, how cash flows work, and how to build financial models. Those skills were uncommon among many of my peers in wealth management, where the focus is often more on client relationships, risk profiling, and asset allocation.

In my first role after the programme, I joined the investment committee and worked closely with the CIO. He was surprised that I could model companies and understand the way investment managers discussed valuations and cash flows. That helped me contribute beyond the traditional responsibilities of the role and made me stand out early in my career.

The accounting foundation was also extremely useful when I later studied for CFA Level I, particularly in an area that many candidates find difficult.

Over time, that technical knowledge helped me progress from boutique firms to a wealth management role at J.P. Morgan. It gave me the ability to speak the language of investments with confidence and contribute at a much deeper level.

Oluwadunbarin Onabowale
From City Investment Training to Berenberg
Coming from a Maths and Statistics background at UCL, I quickly realised that my biggest weakness wasn't quantitative ability—it was accounting and finance.
Before joining City Investment Training, my knowledge of the three financial statements was almost non-existent, so I was looking for a programme that would build those fundamentals properly.

What made the biggest difference was starting from the basics and gradually building towards the technical skills used in investment banking.
By the end of the programme, I was comfortable discussing accounting, valuation, and financial modelling, and those are still the concepts I rely on today during internships and interviews.

Another part of the programme I really valued was the cohort. Everyone was working towards the same goal, so it created an environment where people genuinely helped each other improve. Even now, I'm still in touch with many of the people I met during the course.

I’m now working as a TMT M&A Analyst in Munich, and many of the concepts I use on the job are the same ones I first learned during the programme. That is probably the clearest measure of how useful the training was.

Vraj Agarwal
From City Investment Training to Deutsche Bank
I’m currently studying Physics at Imperial, so my background is completely different from finance.
I became interested in the industry after completing a trading bot project, and although I managed to secure Spring Weeks, I wasn’t able to convert them into summer internships.

The main issue was that I didn’t have the technical knowledge. I knew very little about financial modelling, valuation, or the types of questions that come up in investment banking interviews.
After attending the two-day workshop and speaking to students who had already completed the programme, I decided to join City Investment Training. The course gave me the technical knowledge I was missing and made me much more comfortable with interviews.

I then applied again during the next recruitment cycle and secured a summer internship at Deutsche Bank.

For someone coming from a non-finance degree, the programme gave me a proper understanding of the technical side of investment banking and made a clear difference when I applied the second time around.

Thomas Kaye
From City Investment Training to Anticus Partners Limited
After my placement year was cancelled during COVID, I applied to more than 100 roles and had very little success.

The problem was that I wanted to work in finance, but I had no practical experience to prove that I could do the work.

City Investment Training changed that. During the eight-week programme, I worked on financial modelling, valuation, due diligence, and market research, so I finally had relevant examples to discuss in applications and interviews.

That became especially useful when I applied to a new venture capital fund in the North. I could talk through the DCF work I had completed and show that I already understood some of the tasks involved in the role. Sameer’s 100 investment banking questions also helped me prepare for the technical interview.

The programme gave me something concrete to add to my CV at a time when I had very little finance experience. That first step made it much easier to keep building from there.

Nifemi Oduntan
From City Investment Training to UBS
When I completed the City Investment Training Summer Programme, I knew I'd developed stronger technical skills and interview preparation, but I didn't realise how much the programme would strengthen my CV as well.

One of the most memorable moments during my recruitment process was being told by a recruiter at UBS that City Investment Training on my CV had caught their attention and was one of the reasons I was invited to interview.
That was a huge confidence boost and showed me that the experience was genuinely recognised.
The programme also gave me practical modelling experience and mock interview preparation, so by the time interviews came around, I felt much more comfortable explaining technical concepts and discussing my experience.

I went on to secure an Equity Research internship at UBS and will now be returning full-time. The fact that City Investment Training helped open that first door is something I'll always remember.

Alberto Terzic
From City Investment Training to Morgan Stanley
Before City Investment Training, I had studied Physics and worked in consulting, but I was still trying to work out which area of finance suited me best.

What I found particularly useful was learning how to pitch a stock and prepare a proper investment presentation. I hadn’t covered that in other programmes, and it gave me something practical that I could actually show and discuss during interviews. It wasn’t just about knowing the theory; it was about explaining an investment idea clearly and defending your reasoning.

Another major advantage was having direct access to Sameer. If I had a question about interviews, career options, or the industry, I could ask him and get a clear answer based on real experience. That made the course feel much more personal than following a large online programme.

The course gave me a much clearer sense of where I wanted to go professionally and helped me prepare for that direction. I now work in infrastructure private equity, investing across areas such as solar, wind, and hydro projects.
Rees Jennings
From City Investment Training to UBS
After completing a Mathematics degree at Exeter and then a Master’s in Finance, I assumed I would be ready for investment banking interviews.
I soon realised that the questions banks ask are much more practical than the material I had covered at university.

City Investment Training taught me how to approach accounting, valuation, financial modelling, and technical interview questions in the way banks expect.
During interviews with firms such as Evercore, I was asked detailed questions that I would not have known how to answer before the course.

The equity research experience was also valuable because I had very little finance work experience at the time. It gave me relevant work to include on my CV and real examples to discuss during interviews.

After the programme, I secured a six-month off-cycle Investment Banking internship at UBS.
The course showed me what strong technical preparation actually looks like and gave me a much better understanding of the knowledge required to perform well in investment banking recruitment.

Vedant Gore
From City Investment Training to Cortus Advisory Group
When I joined City Investment Training after my second year at the University of Bristol, my main goals were simple: improve my technical skills, become more confident in interviews, and perform better at assessment centres.

One thing that really stood out was being interviewed by senior bankers from firms such as Rothschild. The feedback wasn’t generic, it focused on how I answered questions, how I structured my responses, and what I needed to improve.
After each interview, I had a much clearer idea of what to work on and became more comfortable tackling technical questions.

The programme also strengthened my financial modelling skills. By the end of the eight weeks, I felt much more confident building models and explaining my approach during interviews.

The biggest change was that interviews gradually started to feel more natural. Instead of worrying about how to answer technical questions, I could focus on communicating my thinking clearly, which made a noticeable difference throughout the recruitment process.
