How important are Cover Letters to land a job in banking?

Many students feel that cover letters are not as important in snagging a job in banking as CVs.
There is some truth in this but Cover Letters can be extremely important to land a job in banking.
Some banks would rather read the cover letter first before the CVs and so it becomes important that you are able to present a professional and well thought out Cover Letter.
Tips for Banking CLs (come across as a high achiever)
1. First paragraph - Introduce yourself and why you have all the skills to work as an analyst.
2. Second paragraph - Talk about past banking experience if any or non-banking related experiences
3. Third paragraph - Academic achievements
4. Fourth paragraph - Other achievements
5 Last paragraph - "I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for reading my cover letter and look forward to hearing from you soon."
My top tip for Cover Letter is ...
Highlight the most relevant section of your cover letter in bold.
Why?
.. because a hiring manager responsible for campus recruitment at the top Investment bank in the world once told me that she spends about three to five seconds per cover letter 😬 - Ouch!!
Which means....
❌ If the first paragraph is badly written, there goes your chance of the manager even opening your CV and...
❌ If you highlight the most relevant sections of your CL then she would read that first.
